FAQs

Will Smart Defense guarantee my safety if I were to be assaulted?

No, but we do know that most predators are looking for easy prey. Fighting back won't guarantee you come away unharmed, but it has been proven that those who resist and fight back are far more likely to either stop an attack from happening or escape.

How much does the program cost?

Smart Defense Certified Instructors have the autonomy to set their own rates. This allows trainers who are located in different parts of the country to charge an amount that is consistent with the cost of living in their area.

How do you vet Smart Defense Trainers?

Each trainer must be Smart Defense Certified. This includes passing a background check, have experience in Krav Maga, Jiu Jitsu and/or Muay Thai, complete sexual assault training, and have the ability to teach a class.

How can I be sure that the trainer is really a Smart Defense Certified Instructor?

All Smart Defense Certified Instructors have a landing page through the Elizabeth Smart Foundation's website. It is only through this landing page that Smart Defense participants can enroll in classes. If you find someone claiming to be Smart Defense Certified, but are unable to find their page on our website, you can rest assured that they are not a Smart Defense Certified Instructor approved by the Elizabeth Smart Foundation.
